New ReRAM Tech Bridges Performance Gaps Between DRAM & Flash

Jul 25, 2014 06:50 PM excellent interview abt ReRAM prospects (keyed off of Crossbar announcement)

David Floyer is interviewed (he founded Wikibon)

ReRam resistive ram... filament; an on/off switch;

highest density flash (as of Aug 2013) flash is winning hands down... so ReRAM must catch up;

ReRAM is byte addressable;

market is combo of DRAM and flash;
DRAM was intro by IBM
flash memory: Steve Jobs commitment in 2006; put this into iPOD nano... started this;

breaking into a market is v difficult;

trying to catchup with v fast moving train;

may be able to apply ReRAM techs to flash....

how far from one terabyte mobile phone... must go thru a lot testing... 5 years minimum;

disk drives 10-15 errors; flash is much lower than that; so reliability is a big hurdle;
HP is in this; IBM is in this; MRAM small niche;

its a long shot but could win;

will Crossbar be sold; may need to be sold to big company;
more liely that flash will improve....

how does Crossbar compare to HP etc.
HP memristor (more a marketing campaign);

will it fit into existing fabs (only exception to that in past 20 years was FLASH);
