MARY MCCARTY

FORMER Republican Palm Beach County commissioner

National Briefing | South: Florida: Election Violations

By The Associated Press

The State Elections Commission fined a Republican Palm Beach County commissioner, Mary McCarty, $2,000 for election law violations in the 2000 presidential recount. The case stemmed from Ms. McCarty's leadership of a group that raised money to oust some Florida Supreme Court justices who had ruled in favor of Vice President Al Gore, the Democratic candidate, in the recount. Ms. McCarty was fined $1,000 each for election law violations stating that her committee accepted excessive contributions, including a $150,000 loan, and for signing an incomplete financial report.
