Create Thoughts from Search, Notes or Events

You can create a new thought instantly from the Search box or within Notes. Say you'd like a "Chicken Alfredo" thought to be a child of "My Recipes," but you're not sure whether you already have a thought with that name. You can begin by searching, and if it doesn't already exist, no need to retype the name.

To create a new thought using the Search box:

  1. Activate the thought that should be the parent, child, or jump thought of the new thought.

  2. Click the Search box at the top-left corner of the window and type the name of the thought you're looking for, or want to create if it's not found.

Searching to Create a New Thought

  1. If the thought doesn't already exist and you want to create it:

If a search finds an existing thought with that name and you still want to create a new one, press the up-arrow key to highlight the Create Child option, then use the same key combinations above.

To create a new thought using the right-click menu:

Selecting Extract Child Thought When Creating from a Note

This creates a new child thought from the selected text, but only if a thought with that name doesn't already exist. Either way, the highlighted text becomes a link to the thought, new or existing. Clicking that link will make the linked thought the active thought

To create a new thought using Cmd/Ctrl + K or Insert Thought or Web Link:

    1. Right-click, then select Insert Thought or Web Link

    2. Press Cmd + K (Mac) or Ctrl + K (Windows).
