Java Memory Usage
<p>By default, TheBrain uses a maximum of 192 MB of memory.</p>
<p>
In some circumstances TheBrain requires more memory then Java allocates, which may cause PB to hang during very memory intensive tasks (in the attached forum thread, the issue was a hang during merging a very large brain). </p>
<p>
To increase the maximum memory TheBrain can use:</p>
<p>
<b>Windows</b>:</p>
<ol>
<li>Close TheBrain</li>
<li>Create a text file and put the following text into it (there must be a linefeed at the end of the file:
-Xmx320m
</li>
<li>Name the text file TheBrain.vmoptions, and place the file in the same location as the TheBrain.jar file. For Windows users, this file is in the Program Files folder. For Mac users it's in the TheBrain application package, under Contents > Resources> app.</li>
<li>Restart TheBrain.</li>

<b>OS X </b>
</p>
<ol>
<li>Close TheBrain</li>
<li>In the applications folder, right-click TheBrain.app and choose Show Package Contents</li>
<li>Make a copy of the Info.plist</li>
<li>Open the Info.plst in TextEdit</li>
<li>Modify the following text:

<li>Save and close the file.</li>
<li>Restart TheBrain.</li>

The process above will set the maximum usage to 320MB. Depending on the size of the brain and the task, more may be required. Be sure to rename the file to revert to the normal memory settings when the task is completed.</p>
