Self-Pity to Compassion Practice

●The steps:

○Self pity →

■Acknowledge the self-pity, with nice level of playfulness, not too serious (For about a minute or so) What’s my % of seriousness of self-pity right now? where was it in the body?

○Care & Compassion → “In self-pity, we’ve found that there’s 95%self-care”

■Behind self-pity there is care & compassion for oneself.

■How much can you feelthe care and compassion below the self-pity?

■If as steward you feel deep care & compassion, you can offer to share it.

■(When client is done, ask: Can I add to this step what I wish for you?

○Sinking into the self-care & self-love that arise, let any emotion be transmuted.

■What happens is that our heart starts to open to itself. Strangely this brings more space to think and feel, more “cognitive safety” to meet the situation. From there we can act a compassionate response. (Staying compassionate to self and to other at the same time).
