ACC Mission

“The mission of the ACC is to create and demonstrate the feasibility of advanced product and process concepts for General Motors through a unique multi-disciplined environment by:

Monitoring the direction of technical, social, and aesthetic trends especially on the West Coast.

Synthesizing knowledge of these trends into new product concepts.

Exploring and implementing new product design methods and technology.

Providing entry opportunity for new high technology talent.

Focusing primarily on advanced automotive concepts while examining other potential product areas”.

Our team’s number one priority was using the mission of Providing entry opportunity for new high technology talent. First thing the team started contacting the universities and schools in the LA basin or Southern California. Hank and I looked at Art Center College CCS before we left Detroit because CCS was 2nd to the Art Center transportation design department.

The R&D and the Advanced Product Engineering team members started contacting universities such as Caltech, Long Beach State, UCLA, USC, California Northridge, Cal Poly, And Stanford. The team touched base with our previous contacts: Disney imagineering, The Movie Studios, the hot rod builders, custom car builders, aerospace companies such as Hughes, McDonald Douglas, North American Rockwell, Lockheed Skunkworks, Special effects studios, such as the Industrial Light and Magic Company, and John Dykstra’s special effects studio that provided all the special effects for Star Wars, Spiderman2, Star Trek, and Indiana Jones.
