Creating and developing the GM Sunraycer

My visit with Jerry Brochstein yesterday was very productive as he had some information I had
not seen before. He had an Auto Week issue from February 15, 1988 that had an article on the
Voyage with a cover story "THE BIG CAR CADILLAC MUST BUILD". It had photos of the exterior
and interior of the finished car with describing text and quotes from Chuck Jordan and also Jerry
Brochstein. The one thing that stood out to me was when the author of the article pointed out a
comment made by Chuck that at the beginning of the project he asked GM's West Coast studio
to start with a clean sheet of paper and "do a luxury car that you think meets the requirements
out here in California." A month later he saw the results. "The exterior was good, but not as good
as our Voyage. But the interior was a knockout." The interior was adapted to the Voyage. The
interior design work done by Robert McCann was probably done the later part of 1986 or early
- What would your estimation be? The adaptation of that interior design was done at Triad
with Cathy Wagner and Rohan Saparamadu doing the work. The interior armature and modeling
was done at Triad through the middle part of 1987.
Since Auto Week is a weekly publication they must have put the article together and taken any
photos in early February or late January of 1988. To me that puts our built time of the clay exterior
model at the early part of 1987 to deliver the model to Triad in early summer of that year.
