Circling

Circling approaches are used when

  • The approach does not meet runway alignment criteria for a straight-in landing.
  • Landing is planned on a runway other than the one aligned with the final approach course.
  • exceeds 30°: angle between extended runway centerline and final approach course must not exceed 30° (15° for GPS approaches).

Some approaches are circling-only due to excessive descent requirements or alignment issues.
