- use a SID if assigned, otherwise use the ODP
- may be textual or graphical (SIDs are always graphical)
- usually include "Obstacle" in the name of the departure
- for-hire minimums: 1 statute mile if an airplane has 1 or 2 engines and one half mile for airplanes with 3 or more engines.
Obstacle clearance for a departure is based on the aircraft climbing at least 200 feet per nautical mile and climbing to 400 feet above the departure runway elevation before turning unless otherwise specified in a departure procedure. fbn
