The Fountain - H.F. Adams
Two of the younger business men of the city who deserve credit for successful business management are Harry F. and Ray J. Adams, each of whom until within the last few weeks have been associated in the management of the Fountain confectionery store. Of them it may be said that they are the first and so far the only one to successfully conduct a soda fountain business here throughout the entire year.
The Fountain was established by them 15 March 1912. Soon afterward they bought out the business of S.W. Webb, then in the McIntyre building. They carried soft drinks, sundaes, candies, and ice cream only until the spring of 1915. At that time they began the manufacture of candies and ice cream for their own trade and also entered the wholesale field with these lines. They enlarged their factory and installed large and costly equipment for this purpose. They also added to the furnishings of the dining room and began serving of a merchant's light noonday lunch. These departments proved immediately popular and have given a decided impetus to the business of the house.
A few weeks ago, Harry F. Adams took over the interest of his brother in the concern, and hereafter will conduct the business alone. Mr. Adams is at the head of the city volunteer fire department and is not only one of Cheney's best known men, but most highly esteemed. He was in charge of the substation of the Washington Water Power company from the time of its entrance into Cheney until early summer of the present year, when his connection with the company was severed.
