INDEPENDENCE FROM GROWTH

The settling down of a system to a stable equilibrium is not compatible with continuous growth. This is why in the biological process it is either growth (unstable, temporary) or function (stable, permanent ) that is optimal, but hardly ever both. The cells of the human brain as an example: their growth is terminated a few months after birth so that the brain can start functioning. Hence systems ought to be examined as to whether they are oriented primarily toward functioning rather that toward growth. Of course it is not growth as such but dependence on growth which is dangerous for a system, as shown by the breakdowns of enterprises or entire national economies.
