Thought ambiguous identity Review workaround

That’s an excellent workaround, and it fits TheBrain’s graph structure well.

Recommended identity-review convention

When a player identity is uncertain:

This creates a durable research marker. The next time the same player appears, the existing jump links immediately expose the prior ambiguity and reduce repeated investigation.

Suggested graph pattern

Category thought
└── parent link from the selected/provisional player thought

Questionable player thought
   ├── jump → Candidate A
   ├── jump → Candidate B
└── note → reason for identity review

The category should still be linked to the player thought that best represents the source row, but the ambiguity should remain visible through jump links rather than being silently resolved.

Important distinction

A jump link should indicate identity review, not confirmed identity. Therefore:

Repeated identity challenges

I agree that recurring names should become known research hotspots. We can treat existing jump links as a signal:

  1. Search the player name.
  2. Inspect all exact and alternate matches.
  3. Check whether a prior identity-review jump already exists.
  4. Reuse the established candidate or review network.
  5. Add only new candidates when necessary.
  6. Record the resolution once it is confirmed.

I recommend adding this rule to the League Season Leaders template and, ideally, the Franchise All-Time Leaders template as well:

Identity-review jump rule: When a source row has an uncertain, duplicate, or potentially conflicting player identity, create jump links to all plausible candidate thoughts and document the ambiguity. Do not treat those jumps as confirmation, do not merge candidates, and do not attach the source URL until identity is verified. Reuse existing identity-review links in later tables to avoid repeating the same research.

This is a strong improvement because it turns an ambiguous identity into a reusable research network instead of an isolated warning.
