🔄 Understanding Backward Compatibility with Light-Sync
When using software updates like TheBrain 15, enabling light-sync changes how your data and file attachments are packaged and synchronized in the cloud. Because of this structural change:
- Incompatibility with Older Versions: Older versions of the software (such as version 14) are not designed to read or process the newer data packaging used when light-sync is active.
- The Requirement to Disable: If you ever need to downgrade or revert to an older software version to open and manage your brain locally on your machine, you must first disable light-sync.
Restoring Local Structure: Turning it off ensures your data reverts to the standard format that older versions recognize and can open locally without errors.
Backward compatibility rule
In TheBrain 15, data packaging changed to support Light Sync (which keeps large file attachments in the cloud and downloads them on demand). Because of this change:
- Once a brain has been opened and used in Version 15, it will not automatically open again in Version 14.
- If you ever need to revert or move that brain back to Version 14, you must disable Light Sync within Version 15 first.
