Win + V
Windows Clipboard History (Win + V) is a built-in Windows 11 utility that goes far beyond the traditional single-item clipboard.
- Instead of only remembering the very last thing you copied,
- it retains a running history of your recent text, HTML, and image clips,
- making it an essential tool for data management, rapid entry, and workflow automation.
Key Features & Capabilities
- Expanded Capacity: It stores up to 25 copied items (text, HTML, and images smaller than 4MB).
- Older items automatically fall off the list as new ones are copied, unless pinned.
- Older items automatically fall off the list as new ones are copied, unless pinned.
- The "Pin" Feature: You can pin important snippets, templates, or frequently used code/Markdown blocks so they stay permanently saved at the top of your history,
- even if you restart your PC or clear your clipboard.
- even if you restart your PC or clear your clipboard.
- Sync Across Devices: If enabled, your clipboard history can sync across your Windows devices tied to the same Microsoft account (found under Settings > System > Clipboard).

- Plain Text Pasting: Windows provides options in the panel to paste items either with their original formatting or as plain text.

How to Use It Effectively
- Open the Panel: Press
Windows Key + Vanywhere in Windows 11. A pop-up menu will appear near the bottom-right corner of your screen (or near your cursor). - Select and Paste: Click on any item in the history list to instantly paste it into your active document, note editor, or browser.
- Manage Items:
- Click the three dots (...) next to an item to Pin it, Delete it individually, or Clear All unpinned items.
- Click Clear All at the top if you need to wipe sensitive data quickly.
Why It's Useful for Power Users & Data Entry
- Eliminating Repetitive Copy-Pasting: When gathering or standardizing large sets of structured data (like historical records, rosters, or code templates),
- You can copy 5 or 10 separate snippets in sequence and then drop them into your database one by one without constantly switching source windows.
- Stashing Formatted Templates:
- Pinning standard Markdown table headers,
- boilerplate text,
- or frequently reused syntax prevents you from having to hunt for them across external files.
- Bypassing App Parsing Glitches:
- If pasting directly from a chaotic web source causes formatting bugs or text loss in heavy desktop applications (like specialized database editors),
- copying the raw text
- or using clipboard manager tools to strip problematic formatting ahead of time keeps your workspace clean and stable.
Enabling Clipboard History
If pressing Win + V prompts a notification asking you to turn the feature on:
- Click Turn on in the prompt, or navigate manually to Settings > System > Clipboard.
- Toggle Clipboard history to On.
For example: this is a markdown syntax for creating a table:
|TeamName - Year|(W/L)|Statistics|
|{nl}---{nl}|---:|---|
| TeamName - Year | (W/L) | Statistics |
|---|---|---|
| ---: |
