Recommended classification/sort model

Use two dimensions:

1. Competition level/type

2. Specific league

Keep the actual league as its own thought/type where appropriate:

This avoids trying to encode too much information in one type.

Important distinction: Spring Training

Spring Training is not really a competitive level equivalent to MLB, Minor League, or College. It is better modeled as a season/context designation:

Team-Season thought
  ├── Type: MLB Team-Season
└── Tag or link: Spring Training

For example:

New York Yankees - 2024
  Type: MLB Team-Season
  Context: Spring Training
>

If your spring-training pages are separate team-season thoughts, then a dedicated type such as Spring Training Team-Season is reasonable. I would avoid calling it “Spring Training League” because the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues are the actual league contexts.

My suggested type hierarchy

Given our existing Leagues type, I would use:

Leagues
├── Major League
├── Minor League
├── Foreign League
├── College League
├── Rookie League
└── Spring Training League

But for team-season thoughts, I would use clearer names:

MLB Team-Season
Minor League Team-Season
Foreign League Team-Season
College Team-Season
Rookie League Team-Season
Spring Training Team-Season
>

These should be types, not ordinary league thoughts.

Why this works at 76,000+ thoughts

It allows efficient reporting and cleanup:

It also prevents ambiguity. A specific league thought such as Australian Baseball League (ABL) can remain distinct from the broader classification Foreign League Team-Season.

Existing taxonomy considerations

Your brain already contains:

Cape Cod League

Classify as:

.07 Summer Collegiate League

The Cape Cod Baseball League is a summer collegiate league. Players are generally college athletes, but the league is not the same as ordinary college-season competition.

Recommended hierarchy:

.00 LEAGUE
└── .07 Summer Collegiate League
    └── Cape Cod Baseball League

This category could also include leagues such as:

I would not classify Cape Cod as College Team-Season because that would blur the distinction between a player’s university season and summer collegiate competition.

MLB Draft League

Classify as:

.08 Draft/Pre-Draft League

The MLB Draft League is different from both Minor League Baseball and summer collegiate baseball. It is a draft-oriented showcase/development league whose composition and purpose changed after its creation.

Recommended hierarchy:

.00 LEAGUE
└── .08 Draft/Pre-Draft League
    └── MLB Draft League

This category could eventually include other draft-oriented or showcase competitions if your database expands.

I would therefore avoid creating duplicate broad types until the existing taxonomy is reviewed. In particular:

Use these six classification types for team-season thoughts:

  1. MLB Team-Season
  2. Minor League Team-Season
  3. Foreign League Team-Season
  4. College Team-Season
  5. Rookie League Team-Season
  6. Spring Training Team-Season

Then use specific league thoughts/types as secondary classification, and keep the affiliation direction uniform:

Team-Season → Player

The player is always the child of the team-season thought, regardless of competition category.

Use two-digit numbering

Using numeric prefixes is a good strategy for consistent sorting, especially in a large brain.

I suggest:

.01 MLB Team-Season
.02 Minor League Team-Season
.03 Rookie League Team-Season
.04 College Team-Season
.05 Foreign League Team-Season
.06 Spring Training Team-Season

However, I would distinguish league level from competition context:

Then treat Spring Training separately:

.01 Spring Training Team-Season

or use a Tag such as Spring Training on MLB team-season thoughts.

Use .01 through .09, then .10, rather than .1, .2, etc. This preserves alphabetical sorting once you exceed nine categories.

Also reserve gaps for future categories:

.01 MLB Team-Season
.02 Minor League Team-Season
.03 Rookie League Team-Season
.04 Foreign League Team-Season
.05 College Team-Season
.06 Spring Training Team-Season
.10 Independent League Team-Season
.11 Summer Collegiate Team-Season
.12 Winter League Team-Season

This is compact, predictable, and scalable.

I suggest a functional color hierarchy: broad categories should use strong, recognizable colors, while lower-level types use lighter shades of the same family. This keeps the Plex readable without making 76,000 thoughts visually noisy.

Suggested expanded ordering

.01 MLB Team-Season
.02 Minor League Team-Season
.03 Rookie League Team-Season
.04 Foreign League Team-Season
.05 College Team-Season
.06 Spring Training Team-Season
.07 Summer Collegiate Team-Season
.08 Draft/Pre-Draft League Team-Season
.09 Independent League Team-Season
.10 Winter League Team-Season

Color suggestions

To preserve the existing visual logic:

CategoryColor
Summer Collegiate#70AD47 — medium green
Draft/Pre-Draft#8064A2 — blue-purple
College#548235 — darker academic green
Minor League#2E75B6 — blue

The distinction between the two greens is intentional:
