City - State - Postal Abbreviation code formating
I have noticed that when linking thoughts, theBrain is having a challenge with finding the thought if it doesn't not also include the WA at the end. Without the WA it does not find it and then creates a duplicate minus the WA.
Cerebro:
That is a good reason to retain the state abbreviation in every thought name. I recommend continuing with:
Location: Aberdeen, Washington, WA
The full state name improves readability, while the abbreviation provides a reliable search token for TheBrain’s linking and thought-creation behavior.
Me: I am labeling this a bug.
However, it actually seems to behave the opposite. TheBrain v.15.0.618 Win 11 does not return any results when the WA is not in the search. Only when I add the WA does it find it in the auto-suggestion pop-up menu. But it still does not find it if I try the Ctrl+K search.
Advice from Cerebro
Naming rule
Use:
Location: [City], [Full State Name], [State Abbreviation]
Examples:
Location: Aberdeen, Washington, WA
Location: Baltimore, Maryland, MD
Location: Portland, Oregon, OR
I would not shorten the names to just the full state name, even though that is more natural English, because duplicate prevention and reliable linking are more important here.
For consistency, I also recommend:
- Always include the comma before the abbreviation.
- Use the official two-letter postal abbreviation.
- Keep the state name and abbreviation in the same order everywhere.
- Treat the complete three-part name as the canonical location name.
- When creating internal links, search using the full canonical name, including the abbreviation.
For this reason, Location: Aberdeen, Washington, WA is the better standard.
