The Timeline Returns
The timeline from TheBrain 14 is back: a strip below the plex showing your events on a zoomable time axis.
- Drag the background horizontally to pan and vertically to zoom — or use the mouse wheel or trackpad pinch
- Click on the timeline to create an event, or drag to create an event and set its duration in one gesture
- Drag events to reschedule them
- Jump around with day/week/month/year views and a mini calendar
- Choose between classic angled flags and a new chip-style event display
- Switch between the timeline and the day navigator panel using the rightmost icon in each view's toolbar
Callouts in Notes
Highlight important information with callout blocks — colored, icon-labeled blocks such as Info, Tip, and Warning.
- Insert any of 13 callout styles from the notes editor menu
- Customize each callout type's colors, icon, and title style in the theme editor
- Callouts convert to and from markdown, compatible with Obsidian
Brain Themes: Complete, Plex, and Content
The Brain Theme settings are redesigned around theme templates.
- The new Complete Themes gallery pairs a plex theme with a content theme and applies both in one click — 28 matched pairs are built in, and you can create your own combinations
- Separate Plex Themes and Content Themes galleries let you apply, rename, import, export, and save your own templates — custom themes now sync across your devices, including on the web
- Sort galleries by hue, brightness, name, or most recent, and filter to just your own themes
- Content theme thumbnails now preview each theme's real fonts and heading styles
- After trying themes, one click restores the theme you started with
Faster Notes Editing on Large Notes
Major performance work in the notes editor, focused on very large notes.
- Notes open much faster — content appears almost immediately and the remainder fills in seamlessly in the background
- Typing is much more responsive
- Saving is significantly faster
Faster Tables in Notes
Notes containing large or many tables are now much quicker to work with.
- Notes with many tables load in a fraction of the previous time
- Typing in table cells is now smooth even with thousands of cells
Import from More Apps
- New importers bring your notes into TheBrain from Apple Notes, Dynalist, Google Keep, Joplin, Notion, OneNote, and Workflowy — found under
File>Import Brain, each with step-by-step instructions.
- Markdown imported from other apps or pasted into notes is now converted more faithfully, including tables, bullets, task lists, and italics
- Print and PDF export preview now shows true document pages with margins, page breaks, and zoom
- Backlinks and unlinked mentions in the notes footer now have a context menu for working with the link
- Tab now moves through the create-thought dialog's fields in a predictable order
