myclimate

myclimate is a partner for effective climate protection, globally and locally. Together with industry partners and private individuals, myclimate wants to shape the future of the world through advisory services and educational programmes, as well as its own projects. It does so in a market-oriented and customer-focused way as a non-profit organisation.

As an international climate protection organisation with Swiss roots, myclimate and its scientific experts offer individual industry solutions and climate strategy consulting for business clients. Its customers include large, medium-sized and small companies, public administrations, non-profit organisations, event organisers and private individuals. Via its partner organisations, myclimate is represented in other countries such as Germany, Austria, Sweden or Norway.

The high-quality projects promote quantifiable climate protection and greater sustainability worldwide. myclimate has developed and supported 197 climate protection projects in 45 countries around the world since its foundation in 2002. Emissions are reduced there by replacing fossil energy resources with renewable energies, and by implementing local afforestation measures with smallholder farmers and energy-efficient technologies. myclimate climate protection projects meet the highest standards (Gold Standard, Plan Vivo), which are not only proven to reduce greenhouse gases locally and regionally, but also make a positive contribution to sustainable development.

myclimate encourages everyone to make a contribution to our future, through interactive and action-orientated educational programmes. With this aim in mind, myclimate has already reached more than 87,000 school children and 13,500 trainees in Switzerland, Germany and Liechtenstein. In total, over 200,000 people have benefited from myclimate education projects. Moreover, the foundation also advises on integrated climate protection with tangible added value. In the field of CO₂ and resource management, myclimate supports companies with advice, analyses, IT tools and labels. The portfolio ranges from simple carbon footprints (emissions calculations) at the corporate level through to comprehensive life cycle assessments for products. Our experienced advisors help with identifying and tapping into potential in the areas of energy and resource efficiency.

Since the foundation was established, the myclimate climate protection projects have created thousands of jobs, protected biodiversity and improved the general living conditions of hundreds of thousands of people. Not least because of this, the German Federal Environment Agency is explicitly showcasing myclimate as a supplier for voluntary climate protection measures. In both 2015 and 2012, the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) recognised two myclimate projects as “game-changing Climate Lighthouse Activities”, which were subsequently honoured by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the UN climate conferences in Paris and Doha. In addition, the myclimate education project “KlimaLokal” was awarded the Milestone Prize in 2012, the Swiss tourism industry’s highest distinction. In May 2016, myclimate received the Swiss sustainability award PrixEco.

The foundation board has voted René Estermann, Dipl.-Ing. Agr. (graduate engineer in agriculture) ETH, as the new managing director. René Estermann has been successfully working for the consultation and engineering office composto+ in the environment industry for 16 years. He gathered international experience in, among other things UNIDO projects in Cuba, in international appearances of Biomasse Schweiz, and with mandates in the context of the development of biodegradable polymers. After switching to myclimate, his office will be continued by his long-time colleagues and employees. René Estermann about myclimate: "I want to successfully continue the development and growth of myclimate to becoming the leading Swiss provider of voluntary CO₂ compensation. Together with the dynamic and competent team, I want to continue to further advocate innovative services and products as well as climate protection projects with local additional benefits. "

Five years ago, the idea of voluntary carbon compensation emerged with the launch of the first climate tickets. In the meantime, in-demand products and services have developed from the then novel idea, and are today offered by the well-known and optimally supported myclimate foundation. Top-class customers have been convinced about innovative climate protection, from reputable partners in the travel industry, to climate-neutral car travel with Mobility, to the CO₂ compensation of the Football World Cup 2006.

Now the three myclimate founders, Renat Heuberger, Thomas Camerata and Patrick Bürgi, decided to put the focus wholeheartedly on the preparation and implementation of climate protection projects. Together with two other partners, their new company, South Pole Carbon Asset Management AG, develops so-called CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects. The foundation board is thankful for the great commitment of the founders and, together with the entire myclimate team, wishes the new start-up much success. Both organisations will collaborate in the future on a project basis, and thus utilize their combined strengths even better for the protection of the climate.
