BrightGreen Energy

Africa’s reliance on forests for wood fuels has led to deforestation and climate degradation. Better cooking fuels can save lives, protect forests and save family income. BrightGreen is a vertically integrated biofuel company, tackling this challenge through the design, production and distribution of biofuel blocks. Our solar driven facility has a monthly capacity of 30,000 kilos and employs 20 people, 50% of whom are women.

When BrightGreen first launched, there was little faith in biomass as a robust business model that could deliver widespread benefits. Since that time, BrightGreen has trailblazed this young sector and its impact shows that improved cooking fuels can deliver social, financial and environmental impact. In the next 5 years, we will be expanding our sales and distribution to Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda & Ethiopia, and increasing our production capacity from 20,000 to 1000,000 kilos each month.

Our most influential distributor agents are self-supporting community women entrepreneurs. To enhance their productivity, we offer business coaching, financing and marketing support to spread our intervention to the very last mile. We also provide training and financing to supplier farmers to produce the highest quality biomass for our feedstock supply chain.
