Upon reflecting on the quotation I felt the overwhelming sense of despair. A despair I will never be able to fathom, but explore through artistic expression. I wanted to illustrate the two opposing forces of darkness and light, chaos and peace. This could be seen in the shapes, colors, textures and motion, thinking about how rough grain interacts with smooth edges, and how a circle is unwavered by the turbulence of jagged lines.
But aside from the visual interpretation, I reflected a lot on this quotation though the methodology of the piece. It was very exploratory and experimental. With a few principles and parameters I tackled it straight on in a linear way not knowing what was immediately going to happen next. This allowed me to revisit and reflect on the quote in every step, turn and obstacle, giving as much room to ground it meditation.
