SharePoint Lists

SharePoint Lists are data tables that have existed in SharePoint from its beginning. They are a container list information not associated with a file. Structurally, lists are database tables, with rows and columns. But SharePoint adds an interface layer and functions like, change alerts, workflows, custom views, and custom columns. SharePoint also includes several list templates, such as Task List, Contact List, Calender. It also allows for Excel tables and their content to be imported to create a list.

Recently, Microsoft extended the functionality of SharePoint Lists by creating a separate app named Microsoft Lists that can open and edit SharePoint Lists independent of the SharePoint environment. There are desktop and mobile versions of the app. The lists are still located in SharePoint and can still be managed in SharePoint or in the new app. The data is the same, just the interface is different.
