Summing up a sequence of two digit numbers is an important secondary skill that becomes crucial when we move to multiplication. With open numbers, we are able to introduce a novel way of doing this, utilizing a big end approach to numbers. There are a number of advantages to this approach. We also connect with the idea of approximating a sum, by finding a range in which the required answer sits.
