We review basic facts about complex numbers, particularly polar coordinates and multiplication of unit complex numbers leading to de Moivre's theorem. We illustrate the geometry of the situation with GeoGebra. Then we introduce the (complex) exponential, which gives us new insight into the circular functions cos and sin, and allows a powerful exponential polar form for complex numbers. This is an online component of MATH1141 Linear Algebra (UNSW Sydney).
