We introduce the famous binomial series of Newton, extending the Binomial theorem to rational values of the exponent. With the Algebraic Calculus approach, we cannot interpret this formula in the usual way, as we have to stick with concrete arithmetic involving rational numbers. However we can still explain where the formula comes from, and this is most clearly seen by having another look at the Harriot - Pascal array. Please note that the Algebraic Calculus One course is now publicly available at https://www.openlearning.com/courses/.... Why not join? This is an important pre-requisite to learning the Algebraic Calculus Two.
