Prolaborate
Prolaborate
Overview
Prolaborate is a web-based collaboration, visualization, and publishing platform for Enterprise Architect models. It is intended to make EA repository content accessible to architects, developers, managers, and other stakeholders through browser-based views rather than requiring every reader to use the EA desktop client.
Typical capabilities
Verify the exact edition and current release before procurement, but evaluation normally includes:
- Browser-based navigation of EA models
- Interactive diagrams and model views
- Search and traceability
- Dashboards and reports
- Stakeholder-friendly publishing
- Role-based access and authentication
- Integration with EA repositories and Pro Cloud Server
- Links from published content back to model elements
How to use it
- Select and prepare the EA repository that will be exposed.
- Deploy Prolaborate using the supplier's supported architecture.
- Connect it to the EA repository, commonly through Pro Cloud Server or another supported repository connection.
- Configure authentication, roles, permissions, and model visibility.
- Create dashboards, navigation pages, reports, and filtered views for each audience.
- Publish a pilot architecture area, such as applications, integrations, or a C4 model.
- Validate that links, diagrams, searches, security rules, and performance work as intended.
- Establish a publishing lifecycle and ownership for dashboards and reports.
Example
A stakeholder portal might provide:
- An application landscape dashboard
- A system-context view for Order Management
- A container view showing Web Application, Orders API, and Orders Database
- A traceability page linking requirements to systems and components
- A filtered view for a business unit or project
Advantages
- Strong stakeholder-facing web experience.
- Useful for dashboards, navigation, reporting, and controlled publishing.
- Reduces the need for broad EA-client deployment.
- Can preserve links to the underlying EA model.
- Appropriate when EA remains the authoring repository but many users need browser access.
Disadvantages and considerations
- Separate product licensing, deployment, administration, and upgrade management.
- Requires careful security configuration so users see only approved model content.
- It is a presentation and collaboration layer, not automatically a replacement for EA authoring.
- Connectivity, repository performance, and Pro Cloud Server configuration affect user experience.
- Confirm supported EA and Pro Cloud Server versions before implementation.
Best fit
Choose Prolaborate when the primary requirement is a polished web portal, dashboard, reporting, and stakeholder-publishing layer over an EA repository.
