Separation from God

In a conversation with a believer, who believes that Christ’s suffering and atonement are required to bring us back to a state where we can abide the presence of God, the idea is that no unclean thing can enter the presence of God. That is an assertion that props up large institutions who are intermediating between individuals and God. However if this is not true, and God’s omni-benevolence and love and omnipotence is greater than that, then maybe we don’t need all that man-mediated machinery for us to return to God’s grace, whatever that means. Maybe we can become God for each other, especially our children. Why can’t we have unconditional love beyond conception, for ourselves, for each other? Why can’t we be better parents to our children then God is to the family of man, seemingly abandoning them, or if various scriptures are to be believed, not talking to them except through very narrow channels, namely a handful of men among billions, who wrote down some words in books. Why can’t God have more love than that? Is this a man-induced lack of empathy? Did God really create this scarcity, or did man?
