Ontological Argument
Ontological Argument
As a believer, I once wrote an argument for the existence of God along the following lines:
- Love exists.
- God is Love.
- If you assume 1 and you admit 2, then God exists.
But this does not imply that we know anything more about God, or which God we are talking about, etc. Or that you should live your life a certain way, give money to some specific organization, etc.
In the same way, it is still a large leap from a "maximally perfect being" of the ontological argument, to the God of Abraham, or any other God we supposedly know so much about.
From Wikipedia:
Philosophers including C. D. Broad dismissed the coherence of a maximally great being, proposing that some attributes of greatness are incompatible with others, rendering "maximally great being" incoherent.
