Systems and People

The Catholic Church and the LDS Church are not evil. The people in them are not evil, but generally have good intentions.

However, systems can perpetuate harm. The Catholic Church’s systematic coverup of child sexual abuse, to protect an institution over individuals, is evil, meaning, it is abusive and harmful and needs to change. Similarly, the LDS Church’s one true law firm, Kirton McConkie, covering up sexual predation is harmful and needs to change.

Furthermore, some other policies and doctrines of the LDS Church are harmful and need to change, especially the policy where pointing this out or criticizing the actions or words of the dear leaders will get you excommunicated, but sexual predators are not excommunicated. (Joseph Bishop, former MTC President, preyed on young sister missionaries in the 1980s, and as far as I know, he was never disfellowshipped nor excommunicated.)
