How a Bat's Brain Works: They Have GPS Cells

Neural GPS System

Recent research has shown that the brains of Egyptian fruit bats possess a neural "GPS system" that allows them to track their location and predict future positions. This system is primarily facilitated by **place cells** located in the hippocampus, which become active when the bats occupy specific locations. Interestingly, these neurons often represent future locations more strongly than current ones, indicating that bats can anticipate their flight trajectories.
