Chapter 69: Vitamin E page 395
From Page 399:
At Harvard, several studies with hamsters have shown that Vitamin E has an inhibiting effect on artificially induced tumors in hamsters. In one study, the scientists exposed two groups of hamsters to cancer-causing chemicals, giving one group Vitamin E. After 22 week, all of the group without Vitamin E had tumors of varying sizes, but the group who got Vitamin E had no tumors at all.
All of these studies seem to show the tremendous promise of Vitamin E and cancer prevention, or in the more cautious words of one researcher, Charles Hennekens, M.D., of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, "There is some intriguing research about the potential of Vitamin E, particularly since most cancers are epithelial (occurring in cells that line the surfaces of organs) and Vitamin E may work well there" Perhaps that's why the National Cancer Institute has chosen Vitamin E as one of the few nutrients in which it is willing to invest research funds. (A large-scale experiment on people and nutrients can cost up to $100 million.) rk NOTE: How do they know how much it costs to EXPERIMENT ON PEOPLE? IS HARVARD COMPLAINING THAT THEY DON'T GET PAID ENOUGHT FROM THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE? DID NCI PAY THEM MORE?
