Genesis, 3, Comments
There was no commandment to not eat from the tree of life.
We chose knowledge over life (now shut out from the tree of life).
The tree of knowledge of good and evil is the desire for knowledge.
I desire wisdom outside the knowledge which God imparts to me.
I don’t have the tools to handle a lot of knowledge, and this brings about a distrust that God will not give me the knowledge I need for my responsibilities and trust instead my own knowledge.
Yet God has perfect knowledge and has promised to give me everything I need. God given knowledge also includes the tools to handle it.
The curse on Adam and Eve were curses on:
- Enmity - Between snakes and women (deception and women, they must stamp it out or have men do so)
- Fertility - Childbirth will now bring increased pain
- Womens fate - is now tied to the men they desire. If they mislead men, they share the same fate.
- Mens fate - The ground is cursed because of men, and now they must work for their living. They are tied to the ground and relient on it. The ground will now hurt as well as provide food, and you must work hard to get it.
- Death, from dust we came and to dust we return
This occurs all the time, through every moment, and is both spiritual and physical.
Desire for knowledge from sources other than God
