Salvation gospel statements in Scripture
4:22-25 (ESV)
^22 That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.”
^23 But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone,
^24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord,
^25 who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
These facts about salvation appear in the above verses:
- Jesus is Lord (to be saved the believer must acknowledge and relate to Jesus as Lord, the supreme deity-authority he/she willingly obeys; Romans 10:9-10)
- Jesus' death paid the penalty for the believer's sins ("was delivered up for our trespasses")
- Jesus' resurrection demonstrated that God removes the sin-guilt from the believer based on Jesus' substitutionary death ("was raised for (here "for" translates the Greek preposition "dia" in the accusative case meaning "because of") our justification")
