Unsanctioned/unallowed divorce
<p><b>"Unsanctioned/unallowed" means that God does not recognize the divorce as valid, and continues to treat the divorced persons as married to their former spouses.</b></p>
<p>
Given that adultery, moichao (Strongs number G3429), is sexual relations by a married person with someone other than the person’s spouse, notice in Mk 10.11-12 and Mt that after a divorce and remarriage God charges the remarried person with committing adultery, which can only be true if God considers the people still married to their original spouses.
Therefore this verse and the parallel verse in Luke 16.18 indicate that there are situations in which God does not recognize the validity of a divorce.</p>
<p>
Mt 5.32 and 19.9 add to this a condition when God does consider a divorce valid: the case when a married person has committed adultery. The rationale for this “exception clause” is not that in the event of adultery God permits divorce, but rather that the act of adultery dissolves the marriage in God’s eyes, and hence the sinning spouse is an adulterer and fornicator, and in God’s eyes the innocent spouse is an unmarried person, free to marry someone else without committing adultery.</p>
