Rewards for obedience

John 14.21 lists two benefits or "rewards" associated with Your obedience to God. The ESV text is, "Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."

Obedience enables you to demonstrate to Him your love for Him.

Obedience fosters a relationship in which God manifests Himself to you.

The ESV's "manifest" translates the Greek word emphanizo, which Strongs says means to exhibit in person or to disclose by words, to appear, to make clear, to make plain, show, inform. In the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament Kittel describes this word used for God revealing Himself to a person.

Word Pictures in the New Testament, "The Unseen and risen Christ will be a real and spiritual Presence to the obedient and loving believer."

Zodhiates' Complete Word Study Dictionary, "To let oneself be intimately known and understood."
