God has allowed conflict with the sinful realm, demons and unregenerate people. This is His revealed will.
The conflict produces experiences of suffering experienced by His children, those He’s reserved for Himself, His “saints.” (hagioi?)
God allowed Himself to participate in this conflict (He didn’t have to). He assigned Himself the greatest experience of suffering of all.
God has provided the 1 Cor 10.13 promise.
From Foxe’s Christian Martyrs of the World, pg 116-117: Vincent was a Spanish Christian, who had been educated by Valerius, bishop of Saragossa. On account of his great mrits he was made a deacon. When the persecution reached Spain, Dacian, the governor of Tarragona, ordered Valerius the bishop, and Vincent the deacon, to be seized, loaded with irons, and imprisoned. Some time after, Dacian examined them and threatened them with death, unless they renounced their faith. Vincent, undertaking to speak for both, avowed their full determination to persist in the faith. Hereupon Dacian, in a rage at his boldness of speech, declared that unless he immediately consented to burn incense to the gods, he should himself fall a sacrifice. Both the prisoners resolutely refused to obey the governor. Valerius was banished, but the whole of Dacian’s rage was exhausted on Vincent; he was racked, had his limbs dislocated, and his flesh torn with hooks. These horrid torments neither putting an end to his life nor changing his faith, he was sent back to prison, and confined in a dark dungeon. Orders were also given not to let him have any food whatever, and that the news of his death should be carried to Dacian as soon as it took place. When the keepers thought him starved they entered the dungeon; but, instead of finding a corpse as they expected, they beheld Vincent engaged in prayer, his wounds healed, and his body in a good state of health. This speedy recovery, and preservation, had such an effect upon the keepers that it became the means of their conversion. Dacian, however, instead of being impressed by so wonderful a cure, was enraged at the triumph of Vincent over his eprsecutors, and gave orders for new tortures to be prepared for him, of so severe a nature as to make his death seem certain. But his malice was again disappointed; for before the instruments could be prepared, God took Vincent to himself, and he died with as much calmness as if he had only sunk into a gentle sleep. Dacian then ordered that Vincent’s body should be exposed in the fields to the vultures; but they would not touch it, so he commanded that it should be thrown into the river, which was accordingly done.”
In Vincent’s case, God carried him through his mistreatment, healed and fed him in the dungeon (or caused his body to not need nourishment), and even protected his corpse from desecration by the birds. In other cases God mitigated the level of pain from burning so His children could and did go through the experience singing His praises rather than writhing and screaming as would naturally happen.
For suffering to glorify God His children must experience it in a way that demonstrates God’s presence and provision for them, so that is what God does.
Your suffering, be it from the natural causes of your physical mortality in a sin-cursed world or the more focused suffering from people and/or demons, will only occur if God wills it and, when it does, will be covered and infused with all the necessary grace and enabling to not only endure it but to demonstrate to the world your enriched faith and joy in Him... to His glory!
