Jesus, Christ, Suffering of
Jesus, the Christ sacrificed Himself to bear the sins of the many people God decided to save. In bearing all their sins, He suffered at God's hands (Isaiah 53:6, 53:10), experienced every sort of temptation we ever will face (Hebrews 4:15), suffered in His body (Isaiah 52:14, 1 Peter 2:24), suffered in His soul (Matthew 26:38, Mark 14:34, John 12:27), suffered injustice (Isaiah 53:7, 53:9), suffered being falsely accused (Matthew 26:4, 26:59-68, 27:13, 27:15-23, 27:39-40, 27:63; Mark 14:55-65, 15:3-14, 15:27-32; Luke 23:1-5, 23:10; 23:18-23, 23:35-39; John 18:28-30, 18:38-40, 19:4-7), suffered poverty (Matthew 8:20, Luke 9:58, 2 Corinthians 8:9), rejection, sorrow and grief (Psalm 22:6, Isaiah 53:3); suffered abandonment (Zechariah 13:7; Matthew 26:31, 26:56; Mark 14:50; John 16:32); suffered temporary suspension of His glory (John 17:5, Philippians 2:5-9); suffered His eternal perfection besmirched by bearing sin and its guilt (Isaiah 53:4-6, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:13, 1 Peter 2:24, 3:18; 1 John 2:1-2, 4:9-10); and suffered the ultimate hurt of experiencing for the first time in all eternity a break in His perfectly harmonious relationship with the first person of the Divine Trinity, God the Father (Psalm 22:1, Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34).
