47 2 Cor 11.4 Having no "truth filter"

<p><b>2 Corinthians 11:4 (ESV)&nbsp;</b>

4 &nbsp;For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.

<p>&nbsp;

Having no "truth filter", the Corinthian church's readiness to accept any so-called teacher presenting a variant/deviant view of Jesus, spirit, or gospel was a negative example of the instructions in 1 Jn 4.1 to test the spirits to see which to believe and which to reject, and in 1 Thess 5.21 to examine everything and only hold on to the good.</p>

<p>

Though Paul had already said the Corinthian church was lacking in no spiritual gift (1 Cor 1.7), if Paul's statement was meant to be actually true and not sarcastic as I suspect, then they weren't profitably using the "distinguishing of spirits" gift documented in 1 Cor 12.10.&nbsp;</p>
