3 Don't fear future trials

Jn 16.33, (Jesus) "I have told you these things so that in Me you might have peace. In the world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

What things did Jesus tell them that would enable them to have peace in Him?

Impending trials:

Vs 2 they would be put out of the Synagogue

Vs 2 People would think killing them would be a service to God

Vs 5, 16 Jesus would be leaving them to return to the Father

Vs 20a They would be the only ones saddened by what would happen to Jesus; the world would rejoice

Vs 22 They were entering a time of grief

Vs 31 They would be scattered

With the trials, grace:

Vs 4 Forewarned by Jesus of the trials

Vs 7-15 Jesus' departure would bring the blessing of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who will provide many benefits:

Vs 7 Would be a paraclete for them, a "counselor", a helper, one who would come alongside them to assist them

Vs 8-11 Would convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment

Vs 13-15 Would teach the disciples all truth from Christ, including truths about the future, "what is to come"

Vs 20b Their grief would be transformed into joy unshakeable (vs 22), based on wonderful realities

Vs 22 Jesus would see them again

Vs 23-24 They would have such an intimate relationship with the Father that He would give them whatever they ask Him in Jesus' name

Vs 26 They are loved by Jesus' father because they have loved Jesus

Vs 33 Though they would (temporarily) abandon Jesus, He would never be alone and would always have the Father with Him.
