The (stone) tablets of the Covenant

• Moses called them “the tablets of the covenant”. Dt 9.9, 11
• The first two tablets:
  • Fabricated by God, Dt 8.22, 9.10
  • Inscribed by God, Dt 8.22 9.10
  • Containing the Ten Commandments, Dt 8.2-21
    • The words God spoke to all Israel directly, from Mt. Sinai, Dt 8.22-27, 9.10
  • Destroyed by Moses, Dt 9.17
• The second two tablets:
  • Fabricated by Moses, Dt 10.1-3
  • Inscribed by God, Dt 10.2, 4
  • Containing the same content as the first two tablets, the Ten Commandments, Dt 10.2, 4
  • Stored in the box, the “ark” Moses had made, Dt 10.1, 3, 5
    • Carried by the Levites, Dt 10.8
