G3466 Musterion, mystery, something hidden
Strongs: a secret doctrine (teaching).
The word is used in Scripture for a teaching, a body of information formerly unexplained but now explained; as in Rm 11.25, Rm 16.25; 1 Cor 2.7, 1 Cor 4.1, 1 Cor 15.51, Eph 1.9, 3.1, 2, 5, 9, 5.32, 6.19; Col 1.26-27, 2.2; 2 Thess 2.7; 1 Tim 3.9, 3.16; Rev 1.20, 17.6.
It is also used of a doctrine/teaching known in the present but not yet explained, as in 2 Thess 2.5, 7.
An example of this principle is God’s wisdom of individual salvation through Jesus Christ’s substititionary death (1 Cor 2.2) and subsequent resurrection. Paul called it “God’s secret wisdom” (2 Cor 2.7a), formerly hidden (2 Cor 2.7b), and now, starting when the Church started, revealed (2 Cor 2.10).
