G2128 Blessed Eulogetos
Adored, flattered, thought kindly of, spoken well of, extolled, praised.
Used of God who, since He needs nothing, can only be praised; such as Eph 1.3.
The word can have the connotation of conferring on people (saints) not just praise as is due to God, but actual benefit. For example, in Eph 1.3 after praising God (eulogetos, nominative singular masculine adjective modifying “God” Theos) the verb form of the word, eulogeo (aorist active participle singular nominative masculine) is used to say God blessed us (Paul and the saints to whom he wrote) with every spiritual blessing, eulogia (noun dative singular feminine) in the heavenlies.
The word is different from the “blessed”, makarios, used to refer to certain people in passages such as Mt 5.2-11. Here, since people have many needs for practical blessing, that word is used, which means to be happy, fortunate, well-off, privileged.
