Regeneration must precede a person’s saving response to the gospel

Consider the following:

  1. Because a person begins life spiritually dead (see the connected thought titled “Spiritual Death”), that person...
    1. Does not seek God (Romans 3:11)
    2. Is unable to discern and understand spiritual truths (1 Cor 1.18, 1 Cor 2:14).
  2. Therefore, the person’s state of being dead spiritually, e.g. of not possessing a living spirit, must be remedied before he/she can grasp the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ and respond to it in a way that saves them.
