The differences between priests and others includes priorities and provision

Josh 13.14 highlights the difference between non-priests and priests. All non-priests have to work directly for their food, and then provide some to the LORD as offerings. Consequently Israelite non-priests were given an inheritance of arable land from which to raise their food.

In contrast, priests work directly for the LORD and the LORD then provides them their food and whatever else they need. Consequently Israelite priests, of the tribe of Levi, were given an inheritance not of arable land but of food directly from the LORD, in the form of their portion of the offerings by fire the non-priests gave to the LORD.

Saints, people saved from the condemnation of their sin-guilt by Jesus’ atonement and imputed righteousness (2 Cor 5.21), Jews or Gentiles comprising the community of “one new man” God through Paul described (Eph 2.11-22), comprise a kingdom of priests (1 Pet 2.9-10). Thus like Israelite priests every saint works directly for the LORD (Mt 16.24), and the LORD shoulders the responsibility for meeting their living needs (Mt 6.11, Mt 6.25-33, 2 Cor 9.8).
