Dominion over earth
Ps 47 refers to conditions in the Millennium, when God is enthroned on earth.
Though God never relinquishes sovereign authority and control over everything, He has for a time allowed Satan to rule on earth. Satan is called:
- The prince of the world; Jn 12.31, Jn 14.30, Jn 16.11. - The Prince of the power of the air; Eph 2.2.
- The ruler of the darkness of this world; Eph 6.12. - The god of this world; 2 Cor 4.4.
In God's perfect time He will arrest Satan, judge him, and remove him forever from God's and anyone else's presence.
Jesus' parable of the vineyard owner and the tenants follows this arc. At all times the vineyard owner owns the vineyard. Yet for a time he goes away and allows the tenants to run it. Eventually he returns and asserts his local diminion over the vineyard: he judges the tenants (who had tried to take the vineyard for themselves) and removes them. Mt 21.33-46, Mk 12.1-12, Lk 20.9-19.
