19 Ps 13.5 LXX differs from the Hebrew
Ps 14.5 contains a significant difference between the LXX and the Hebrew text. Whereas the Hebrew text says “they” are in great terror (ESV), or “they have feared a fear” (YLT), the LXX inserts the adverb ou, meaning “not” or a negation of the verb it is modifying. Hence the meaning is changed. Note the different meaning in the Lexham English Septuigint 2nd Ed. (LES2) translation which is based on the LXX, “In that place they were afraid with a fear which was not a fear.” All other English translations based on the Hebrew, such as KJV, NASB95, NIV84, HCSB, AMP, etc. convey the same meaning as the ESV. For comparison, below the line is the verse in the ESV and the LES2.
Psalm 14:5 (ESV) There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous.
Psalm 13:5 (LES2) In that place they were afraid with a fear which was not a fear, because God is among the righteous generation.
