Now, there is an article running in Commentary Magazine entitled “The Hypocrisy of the Koch Haters”, which references a review of Jane Mayer’s book in its opening sentence. Not surprisingly, the author, Michael Rubin, is listed as a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). According to ConservativeTransparency.org, the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation has directly contributed over $1.8 million to AEI between 2004 and 2014.

Commentary Inc. appears to be the parent organization of Commentary Magazine (they share an address). It has received funding from DonorsTrust, Donors Capital Fund, and the Sarah Scaife Foundation. According to SourceWatch:
The twin Donors organizations are advertised as a way for very wealthy people and corporations to remain hidden when "funding sensitive or controversial issues," creating a lack of accountability.
The Scaife family, and its foundations, are covered in Jane Mayer’s book.

Matt Welch’s bio lists him as the “Editor in Chief” of Reason magazine. He just tweeted out an article on Reason defending the Kochs’ support for criminal justice reform.

Jane Mayer implies their interest in the issue is new while conceding it is not.

According to Pando, the Kochs have given “millions” to Reason. Pando also details Reason’s prior history of publishing holocaust denial and pro-apartheid content. The Kochs’ stood by Reason for all those years; I suppose it is a nice gesture for them to symbolically return the favor.

The Acton Institute blog is lashing out at Jane Mayer with a blog post entitled “‘Dark Money’ and Leftist Hypocrisy”. According to Conservative Transparency, the Charles G. Koch Foundation directly gave the Acton Institute $50,000 in each of 2011 and 2013. In addition, DonorsTrust and Donors Capital Fund appear to be substantial contributors.
