Former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers has spent years warning about national security threats, cyberattacks, and the need for tougher oversight of emerging technology.

But if the Trump-endorsed Republican wins Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat, Rogers would arrive in Washington with a financial and professional history tied to the very cybersecurity and artificial intelligence companies that stand to benefit from federal spending, contracts, and regulation.

Public records reviewed by Metro Times show Rogers and his wife, Kristi Rogers, served as advisers to Forgepoint Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and infrastructure software startups. The firm manages more than $1 billion in assets and has invested in companies that have received millions of dollars in federal contracts.

Rogers, a former FBI agent and House Intelligence Committee chairman, reported serving as a board adviser to Forgepoint Capital from October 2018 to at least August 2025, according to his most recent Senate financial disclosure. As of April, he was listed as a “Government” member of Forgepoint’s advisory council.

That role matters because Forgepoint’s advisory council isn’t merely ceremonial. The firm has described its advisers as part of its investment operation, helping support companies and decide where Forgepoint puts its money.

Rogers also reported investments in Forgepoint Cyber Affiliates Funds I and II, which held stakes in dozens of cybersecurity companies. Some of those companies received federal contracts from agencies, including the departments of Defense, Justice, Treasury, State, and Health and Human Services.

In his 2025 financial disclosure, Rogers reported investments in the two Forgepoint funds valued at between $150,002 and $350,000. Unlike in prior disclosures, Rogers didn’t list the funds’ underlying assets, making it harder for voters to see which companies were inside the funds.

Earlier disclosures were more detailed.

In 2024, Rogers reported 42 investments held in Forgepoint funds, valued at between $64,036 and $616,006, with income between $45,509 and $144,113. In 2023, he reported 42 investments valued at between $63,035 and $604,000, with income between $43,209 and $140,518.

Among the companies listed in those Forgepoint holdings were CyberCube Analytics, NowSecure, ReversingLabs, BehavioSec, Attivo Networks, and Bayshore Networks.

Those six companies received more than $6.1 million in federal contracts while Rogers was serving as an adviser to Forgepoint or its predecessor, Trident Capital, according to federal spending records reviewed by Metro Times.

CyberCube Analytics, which provides cyber-risk analytics for the insurance industry, received an $872,500 contract from the Treasury Department from 2020 to 2025.

NowSecure, a mobile app security company, received more than $2.6 million in contracts from the Defense Department, Justice Department, State Department, Federal Communications Commission, and Federal Trade Commission from 2015 to 2023.

Attivo Networks received nearly $100,000 in Defense Department contracts from 2021 to 2022.

Bayshore Networks received nearly $50,000 from the Defense Department in 2021. ReversingLabs received more than $1 million in contracts from the Defense and Justice departments from 2012 to 2017. BehavioSec received more than $1.4 million from the Defense Department from 2012 to 2017.

The overlap creates a potential conflict for Rogers if he is elected to the Senate, where he could shape policies and spending decisions involving cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, federal contracting, and national security.

It also complicates Rogers’ campaign image as a public servant focused on protecting Americans from foreign threats. Since leaving Congress in 2015, Rogers has built a lucrative private-sector career tied to the cybersecurity industry, including work with investment firms and companies positioned to benefit from the federal government’s growing focus on cyber defense and artificial intelligence.

Within months of leaving Congress, Rogers joined Trident Capital’s cybersecurity industry advisory council as a government adviser. Trident formed Forgepoint Capital in 2015 as a venture capital firm focused exclusively on cybersecurity.

Rogers also served on the board of IronNet Cybersecurity, a company led by former National Security Agency Director Keith Alexander, from January 2015 to August 2023, according to his LinkedIn profile. Forgepoint was an investor in IronNet in 2021.

Rogers also served as a board director for Constella Intelligence, an identity risk intelligence company powered by artificial intelligence, from September 2017 to at least April 2026, according to his LinkedIn profile. Forgepoint listed Constella as an active partner.

His wife has similar ties to the firm.

Kristi Rogers has served on Forgepoint’s advisory council since 2015, according to records reviewed by Metro Times. She also served on the boards of NowSecure and Qualys, two companies in which Forgepoint invested.

NowSecure received more than $2.6 million in federal contracts from 2015 to 2023. Kristi Rogers has served on its board since October 2020. Qualys, a cybersecurity company, has also listed her as a board member.

Taken together, the records show that Rogers and his wife have been deeply involved in a cybersecurity investment network that includes companies doing business with the federal government.

That could become a liability in one of the most closely watched Senate races in the country.

Rogers narrowly lost the 2024 Senate race to Democrat Elissa Slotkin and is running again after Democratic U.S. Sen. Gary Peters announced he wouldn’t seek reelection. Rogers is the leading Republican in the race and has Donald Trump’s endorsement.

His Republican primary opponent is former Michigan Republican Party co-chair Bernadette Smith.

The Democratic primary is more crowded. Abdul El-Sayed, a former Detroit and Wayne County health official, is running with support from progressives. U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens is emphasizing her work on manufacturing and jobs. State Sen. Mallory McMorrow is pitching herself as a generational-change candidate who can win over voters outside the Democratic base.

The winner of the Democratic primary will likely face Rogers in November unless Smith pulls off an upset.

The race is expected to help determine control of the U.S. Senate.

For Rogers, that means his private-sector record is likely to face new scrutiny. He has already been under fire from Democrats over affordability after repeatedly brushing off concerns about rising prices, tariffs, health care costs, and gas prices.

Now, his cybersecurity investments raise another question for voters: Would Rogers enter the Senate as a watchdog on national security or as someone with financial ties to an industry that depends heavily on federal policy and contracts?

The issue is especially sensitive because the federal government is rapidly expanding its role in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Congress is expected to keep debating how to regulate AI, protect critical infrastructure, fund cyber defense programs, and award contracts to companies developing technology for government agencies.

Those are the kinds of debates that could affect Forgepoint-backed companies.

Rogers has long presented his intelligence and cybersecurity experience as one of his strongest qualifications for office. But the records reviewed by Metro Times show that experience has also been a source of private financial opportunity.

If elected, Rogers could be asked to vote on, investigate, regulate, or fund an industry in which he and his wife have spent years advising, investing, and building business relationships.

For a candidate promising to return to Washington as a national security expert, that may be a hard conflict to explain away.
