Michigan Republican on Monday was stripped of his committee assignments in the state House of Representatives over a social media post about the “great replacement” theory, The Detroit News reports.
On Feb. 6, Michigan state Rep. Josh Schriver shared a graphic posted by far-right “Republican political operative” Jack Posobiec that “depicted black figurines covering most of a map of the world, with white figures occupying smaller sections of Australia, Canada, northern Europe and the northern United States," The Detroit News reports.
Posobiec’s graphic purported to depict the “great replacement theory,” which the Guardian calls “the racist premise that white Americans and Europeans are being actively ‘replaced’ by non-white immigrants.” Schriver’s quote-tweet of Posobiec also included an emoji signifying a downward trend.
Asked by The Detroit News about his post, Schriver thanked Posobiec and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson for “sharing links” on the "great replacement" theory and promised to “continue [his] research on these issues.”

"I'm opposed to racists, race baiters, and victim politics," Schriver said. ”What I find strange is the agenda to demoralize and reduce the white portion of our population. That's not inclusive and Christ is inclusive!"
According to the Detroit News, “In the days since his comments were reported, Schriver has posted on X repeatedly on the topic, calling criticism of his post ‘an anti-white agenda’ and accusing media of attempting ‘to start a race war.’" Monday, House Speaker Joe Tate “revoked Schriver’s privileges” — though the Republican “will still be able to vote on the House floor.”
“Rep. Schriver has a history of promoting debunked theories and dangerous rhetoric that jeopardizes the safety of Michigan residents and contributes to a hostile and uncomfortable environment for others,” Tate said.
"The House of Representatives is the people’s house, and all Michiganders should look upon this body and take pride in how we conduct ourselves. It is also a workplace, and I have a responsibility to make sure the employees of the House feel safe and secure,” Tate added.

Freshman Republican state Rep. Josh Schriver of Michigan was outraged by the presence of a display erected by the Satanic Temple of Western Michigan on the lawn of the state capitol. In response, Schriver announced that he will be attempting to strip “tax exempt status from non-theistic churches.”
Schriver, recently identified by Right Wing Watch as a likely follower of racist, misogynistic, antisemitic, homophobicChristian nationalist Nick Fuentes, appeared on the “Your Defending Fathers” radio program last week. Schriver announced his intention to target churches that he doesn’t believe deserve equal treatment with Christianity under the law, putting him in company of some religious-right activists who don’t believe the First Amendment’s religious liberty protections apply equally to non-Christian religions.
“I actually am working on a policy right now—I haven’t introduced it yet—but it’s actually to really focus on making a distinction between the church—the church of Jesus Christ—and this, quote unquote, Church of Satan,” Schriver announced. “You really have an issue where they’re seen as equal in the eyes of the state, and that doesn’t seem right to me for many, many legitimate reasons. And so removing tax exempt status from non-theistic churches such as the Church of Satan, I think is very, very well in order.”
“There’s many examples of us looking at our First Amendment and how it doesn’t really protect against obscenity,” Schriver continued, revealing that he is also “working on another policy to make pornographic images illegal” because “there’s no need for a moral and religious people to indulge in certain things.”
“We have a duty to lead people as representatives who are appointed by God to make sure that we have a state that is not just good, not just great, but godly,” Schriver declared. “Honestly, I work for God and not for man. And so at the end of the day, I answer to one person, and that’s Jesus Christ.”
