new information from the Jan. 6 committee’s report includes evidence that five Michigan lawmakers _{were in favor}_ of former President Donald Trump’s election fraud claims, reports Michigan Advance.
When Trump’s campaign asked Michigan GOP officials for their agreement to a “fake elector plan," five of the legislators — Senators Jon Bumstead, Rick Outman, Roger Victory, and former House Reps. Sue Allor and Daire Rendon all said “yes.” Rep. Mary Whiteford, responded with “maybe.”
The committee obtained a _{spreadsheet}_ composed of the lawmakers’ answers from Trump staffer Angela McCallum when she was subpoenaed last year.
According to the spreadsheet, Sen. Bumstead happily obliged. “Would be supportive of any actions we take,” he said. He confirmed, “there is a lot of support and interest.”
Although supportive of the arrangement, Sen. Outman had further questions. He first wanted “to see the evidence of the fraud” and was “a bit unfamiliar with the process of what appointing electors looks like.”
The original script McCallum provided to the legislators in Trump’s request was also handed over to the Jan. 6 committee as evidence. It read, “You have the power to reclaim your authority to send a slate of Electors that will support President Trump and Vice President Pence. When there is a resolution to appoint electors for Trump, can the president count on you to join in support?”
The strategy, Michigan Advance reported, _{included a list}_ of 16 “fake Republican electors who 'fraudulently' submitted a false certificate at the state Capitol on Dec. 14, 2020, when the Electoral College met to certify the state’s election results.”

Another fake elector plan that the committee’s report confirmed this week includes would have involved the fake electors hiding in the state capitol building and then attempt cast their votes. Past Michigan GOP Chair Laura Cox said the plan was “insane.”
All of these plans were prepared despite the fact that President Joe Biden won all 16 of the state’s Electoral College votes.
