AN 3 26

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Rossie Alston, Jr. decided he’d had enough of one former Trump official’s libel suit against an ex-aide and stomped his suit into the ground for good.

It was former Kennedy Center chief Richard Grenell second go-around in trying to sue ex-Mike Pence aide Olivia Troye over her claim that Grenell, while a former Acting Director of National Intelligence and a former United States Ambassador, had tried to arrange for former vice president Pence “to attend a white supremacist event while he was on an overseas trip.”

Troye further claimed Grenell “hung out with Nazis during his time serving as the Ambassador to Germany.”

Grenell claimed personal and economic damages in his libel suit, but judge Alston pointed out that Troye’s accusation of Nazi connections did nothing to hinder his career after President Donald Trump entered office.

“Plaintiff acknowledges that, since these remarks were posted, he has: (received private equity opportunities overseas, been named the Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, been named the Interim Director of the Kennedy Center, and joined the Board of Directors at [Fox News’] Live Nation,” Alston pointed out.

Acknowledging this, the judge dismissed the suit “with prejudice,” which effectively cans any further attempt by Grenell to sue Troye over the same accusations.

Troye, for her part, has never retracted her claim of Grenell’s Nazi connections.

Left Hook host, Wjahat Ali called Grenell’s suit “frivolous ... lawfare” on Wednesday and said Grenell had obviously been inspired by his boss Donald Trump to intimidate all opposition with expensive court cases.

“Instead of bending the knee like corporate law firms and media outlets, Troye decided to fight her case — and she won!” said Ali.

“It's just really a way to make an example of an individual and say, if any of you other people speak out, this is coming your way,” Troye added on Ali’s show.

Troye said she caught similar intimidation from the administration when she criticized the appointment and subsequent confirmation of FBI director Kash Patel, who Troye openly complained was unfit for the job.

“Every time I went out and criticized Kash Patel and said he was unfit to become the FBI director, I got a letter, and … MS NOW got a letter threatening to sue them and me over the fact that I was merely saying what other people who have directly worked with Kash Patel were saying as well,” said Troye. “Yeah. It didn't stop me. I showed up at his confirmation hearing because I was, like, ‘all right, you're going to threaten me. I'm going to show up with a former judge and former FBI director.’ And we sat through that hearing together so that I could stare. Republican senators in the face and in the eyes and say, ‘you know exactly what this individual is.’

On Thursday, December 4, conservative Republican Olivia Troye — a former national security aide to ex-Vice President Mike Pence who supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 election — reported, on X, that she had received a letter from Kash Patel's attorney threatening her with legal action and demanding that she retract her "comments on MSNBC about his unfitness to serve as FBI director." But Troye declared, "I stand by my statements."

Patel is among the Trump allies journalist Ross Rosenfeld discusses in an article published by The New Republic the following day. From Patel to "War Room" host Steve Bannon to anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Rosenfeld warns, President-elect Donald Trump's second term will have little or no tolerance for dissent.

"Trumpworld stands ready to stamp out dissent," Rosenfeld argues. "Not just the dissent itself, but the dissenters: those heretics who refute the Gospel of Trump and insist that his second coming, and his second administration, stands to deliver nothing but ill to the United States. Those with differing opinions are set to run afoul of those coming to power."

Rosenfeld quotes Patel's own words, noting that during an appearance on Bannon's "War Room," he threatened, "We will go out and find the conspirators, not just in government but in the media. Yes, we're going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections.

But Patel, Rosenfeld stresses, is hardly the only Trump ally who has no tolerance for criticism of "King Donald."

Trump has nominated RFK Jr. to head the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

"Robert Kennedy Jr. fits snugly within this movement," according to Rosenfeld. "Like Patel, RFK Jr. has promised to clean house when approved for his new position as secretary of health and human services. He's said he'd likely fire around 600 employees at the National Institutes of Health who don't see his vision."

An ally's attempt to defend Donald Trump after his onetime chief of staff alleged startling praise for Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler's generals was repeatedly shut down on CNN Wednesday morning.

Trump's former strategic communications director Marc Lotter faced off against The Grio senior vice president Natasha Alford in a dark debate about John Kelly's recent report to the Atlantic that the former president requested he be more like "Hitler’s generals."

"Voters need to listen to people who are in the inner circle," Alford said. "There's no reason to lie."

Alford's warning to American voters came in response to Lotter's claim that Kelly's words should be dismissed as "one man's perspective."

Lotter claimed he'd never heard the former president praise Nazi leadership's loyalty, accused Trump's critics of name-calling and told voters to put prioritize financial concerns and immigration policy over everything else.

"The world was safer when Donald Trump was in the White House compared to the mess we've got going on right now," Lotter said.

Lotter did not explain by what metric he measured safety and economic success. Under President Joe Biden's administration, violent crime has dropped to historic lows, inflation has decreased and jobs and wages increased.

This may be why Alford asked Lotter to check his numbers.

"This is about more than the dollar," Alford said. "We are talking about the ability to be able to do business, right, to do the business of democracy, going forward."

Alford praised Kelly's courage at stepping forward, urged other former Trump allies to do the same and voters to listen.

"Think about not just the public persona you see, not the charming sort of charismatic personality that Donald Trump may put on when he's trying to get you to vote for him," she said. "Think about how he will actually run the country behind closed doors."

Tempers flared at the end of the segment when Lotter made a call for unity and warned of darkness to come otherwise.

"How powerful would that message be if Donald Trump said that," Alford snapped. "He's not saying that."

Lotter cut in to blame Democrats for calling Trump a threat to democracy, a comment that spurred a fact check from host Sara Sidner

"It wasn't a Democrat in this instance," she said.

Added Alford, "Look at what John Kelly just said."

According to MSNBC, the death toll from Hurricane Helene had passed 200 by Thursday morning, October 3. The disaster has inflicted considerable damage, including millions of power outages and severe flooding, on the southeastern United States — from Florida to Georgia to the Carolinas.

2024 GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has accused President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of neglecting a major crisis, falsely claiming that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp was unable to reach Biden. But in fact, Kemp debunked that claim, saying that Biden invited Kemp to call him directly. And Biden was also quick to reach out to North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.

In a scathing article published on October 3, The New Republic's Hafiz Rashid details Trump's politicization of Hurricane Helene —and emphasizes that this isn't the first time he has tried to "exploit a major disaster."

Former National Security Council (NSC) official, Rashid notes, recently told E&E News that Trump didn't want to send wildfire aid to California in 2018 because the state voted Democratic. And Rashid adds that former Mike Pence national security adviser Olivia Troye told E&E "that she would field calls from local politicians around the country asking for disaster relief because Trump refused to provide aid, leading her to frequently ask Vice President Mike Pence to pressure the president."

According to Rashid, Troye — a conservative Republican who endorsed Harris for president — has "warned that Trump will play politics with disaster aid again if he returns to the White House."

Rashid explains, "Since Hurricane Helene hit the American southeast, Trump has pushed conspiracy theories that Democrats are neglecting Republican areas hit hard by the storm, doubling down after being called out. Even Republican politicians, like Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, are pushing back against him."

The New Republic reporter adds, "But as is often the case with Trump, every accusation is just a confession."
